An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen within the Psychologically Informed Consultation Service (PICS) Offender Personality Disorder Pathway Team for a competent, confident and enthusiastic Applied (Clinical or Forensic) Psychologist to join our experienced team.
The Durham and Teesside Psychologically Informed Consultation Service (PICS) is part of the Offender Personality Disorder Pathway, a joint national initiative between Her Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and NHS England that spans across community, Prison and Probation settings.
The four aims of the pathway are:-
- A reduction in repeat serious sexual and/or violent offending (men); or a reduction in repeat offending of relevant offences for female offenders (women).
- To improve psychological health, wellbeing, prosocial behaviour and relational outcomes
- To improve the competence, confidence and attitude of staff working with complex offenders who are likely to have personality disorder
- To increase the efficiency, cost effectiveness, and quality of OPD pathway services
The PICS team consists of three applied psychologists, and one Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP)
Main duties of the job
The main duties and core role of this post involve providing consultations and formulations to help Probation Practitioners to work with service users with problematic ways of coping or relating to others.
You would be working alongside other psychologists and the ANP, with excellent opportunities for peer support and learning, as well as being expected to access clinical and professional supervision through the well-defined systems we have in place. The post will offer varied opportunities for training and development, with CPD needs being identified and monitored through appraisal. As the Band 8a practitioner within the PICS team, you will also be expected to assist the clinical team lead by taking on agreed managerial responsibilities in the day to day running of the team, and in that person's absence.
All qualified applied (Clinical and Forensic) psychologists are invited to apply. Ideally we would be looking for a candidate who can demonstrate an interest in working with people with a forensic background, personality disorder, and other complex clinical presentations.

- Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
- HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
- Post doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
- Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
- Trained in care co-ordination
- Evidence of continuing professional development
