Job summary

The purpose of the Single Point of Access (SPA) is to assess children and young people being referred to York & Selby CAMHS to ascertain the most appropriate service to meet their needs. The post requires significant clinical and organisational skills due to this being a fast paced role.

The SPA Clinician will work with front line administrators and senior colleagues to identify presenting needs, manage risk and support young people and parents whilst they wait for therapy. This will involve liaising with young people, parents, carers and professionals at the point of their referral as well as when issues arise during the wait for treatment. We have developed a system of screening/triage delivered by therapists to help identify treatment needs and assess risk.

Main duties of the job

The Single Point of Access Team is the first point of access for children and young people, their families, and professionals, referring into the CAMHS service.

The Single Point of Access aims to:

  • Support early intervention and promote prevention.
  • Enable the right support to be provided at the right time.
  • Identifying and provisioning appropriate services at the point of need, including re-ablement and onward referral to specialist services.
  • Deliver improved access across a range of health and social care services.
  • Integrating services around the needs of the person minimising duplication and enabling services to work together across the health and social care spectrum.

The successful applicant will work with a range of agencies locally to facilitate safe care and treatment. Experience of multi-agency working would be helpful. A keen ability to network well and interact with professionals, carers and patients across multi-agency settings is essential. A strong working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Capacity Act and National Guidance in relation to Continuing Health Care would be beneficial.

Essential

  • Current professional registration with an approved professional body.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working within a mental health setting
  • Good understanding of clinical risk and risk management plans
  • Clinical Supervisor

Desirable

  • Leadership or management qualification
  • Post-graduate qualification in a relevant area

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience working with people with mental health conditions in a community setting.
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers.
  • Mentoring or facilitating students on practice placement.
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable

  • Training in CBT and an understanding of attachment and neurodevelopment
  • Experience in triage and assessment of mental health
  • Experience in safeguarding of young people
