Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role are to provide consultant-led anaesthetic care for patients in both elective and emergency settings, along with dedicated sessions in Intensive Care Medicine at North Tees. The post holder will also have opportunities for cross-site working across the University Hospital Tees group.
The on-call commitment is based at the University Hospital of North Tees and comprises a 1:12 Intensive Care rota. On-call cover for Theatres and Obstetrics is provided by a separate consultant anaesthetist; however, there is strong communication and teamwork between all resident and non-resident on-call staff. Weekend on-call duties are typically 24 hours, supported by junior staff working within a three-tier rota.
The new appointee will be expected to undertake five fixed clinical sessions, with the remaining sessions allocated to pre- and post-operative assessments, emergency duties, administration, teaching, non-resident on-call (Anaesthesia and Critical Care), and the weekend trauma list.
The Trust is committed to developing the Clinical Directorate structure and is keen for Consultant staff to build their management potential. A structured development programme is available to provide management training for consultants interested in progressing into leadership roles.
