Job summary
This is a consultant post commencing immediately within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will provide general obstetric and gynaecological services and will be involved in the on-call rota with other consultant colleagues, supported by the junior medical staff
The post requires a special interest in Urogynaecology and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality care for women referred with pelvic floor dysfunction.
Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to work with existing consultants and the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high quality well-led service for patients, including the diagnosis, investigations, treatment and management of patients, in accordance with Trust policies and practices.
The post holder will provide senior clinical leadership to support optimal team performance by promoting an open culture of continuous learning for improvement and act as supervisor and mentor for junior medical and non-medical colleagues. The post holder will work with clinical and non-clinical members of the team on service review and innovation to enhance the patient experience.
Participate in the obstetrics & gynaecology on-call rota with other colleagues, supported by resident doctors - this currently consists of a long day's week 1:12 and a nights based week 1:12
Be skilled in managing emergency gynaecology and obstetrics - support can be provided if necessary.
Actively take part in Gynaecology leadership responsibilities and help implement national recommendations.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCOG or equivalent qualification.
- Completed a recognized training programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and be on the Specialist register or be within 6 months of admission to register.
- Fully registered with GMC and hold a Licence to Practice
- ATSM in urogynaecology and benign vaginal surgery
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register
Desirable
- An additional higher qualification relevant to the speciality
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
- Ability, enthusiasm and willingness to teach and mentor trainees and other staffing groups
- Teaching experience
- Knowledge of undergraduate medical education
- Knowledge of principles of involvement of medical staff in management
- Willingness to participate in management duties and activities within the NHS
- Awareness of the national drivers for safety improvement in maternity services
- Understand how health service reforms affect clinical practice
Desirable
- Attendance at a recognised management course.

- Be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology to that required of a UK CCT holder.

- Experience of clinical research including publications in peer reviewed journals
- Be able to operate independently on a range of surgical procedures for managing prolapse and urinary incontinence and general gynaecology procedures by laparoscopic and open surgical techniques
- Evidence of having completed the clinical audit loop
- Evidence of active participation in a quality improvement project
