An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professional,motivatedand innovative individual to join the Pathology Laboratory at North Tees and HartlepoolNHSfT working in Cellular Pathology as an apprenticeHealthcare ScienceSupport Worker.
This post ismainly basedat the University Hospital of North Tees site, but cross site working may berequired. The departmentoperates an extended day 7am -6pm and the successful candidate is expected to be fully flexible working 7.5 hours per day between these times.
The department has full UKAS accreditation and IBMS training approval. CPD is actively encouraged.
The pathology departments atNorth Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundations Trust andandSouth Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trustareworking collaboratively to develop a joint service with services being delivered on both hospital sites.
Main duties of the job
Main duties within the Cellular pathology department include:
Undertake data entry tasks, inputting patient and specimen information into the pathology specific computer systems
Competently deal with all sample types received into the department including those which may carry transmissible infection risks and follow the appropriate protocols for handling such specimens
Participate in the storing, retrieving and disposal of specimens and specimen records in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures
Undertake "house-keeping" duties as necessary including cleaning, basic maintenance of equipment and support the maintenance of stock levels
Support dispatch of samples to other laboratories which may have complex requirements
