This is an exciting opportunity for a Nurse or Midwife looking towards a career in education with a multi-faceted role including pre- registration, apprenticeships and preceptorship. A recognised teaching qualification is essential, as there will be a requirement to deliver training covering all aspects of these elements. You will need a problem solving approach and the ability to deal with sensitive and complex situations with urgency and discretion, often with little notice. You will be working to tight timescales with a small but very effective Team and no day will be the same, workload is frequently unpredictable but very rewarding.

Main duties of the job

The Practice Experience Facilitator will promote a proactive approach to education, learning and maintaining the highest standards of practice education and clinical practice within North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.

The purpose of this role is to provide expert level advice and support for all learners in practice, and those who support those learners.

To ensure placement capacity and increase where possible to provide a valuable learning experience in practice for all learners.

Develop new ways of learning and placement models to provide a positive learning experience.

Through contemporary healthcare education practice, promote development which will maintain excellent standards of clinical practice, multi-disciplinary team working, effective communication, optimal patient safety and robust infection control practices.

The role requires the post holder to be highly flexible in terms of working arrangements, set working days cannot be guaranteed.

By gaining an understanding of the roles of the other Team members the post holder will work collaboratively to provide support for all Team activities.

Job responsibilities

The term learner applies to pre- registration nursing, midwifery and paramedic students, apprentices, preceptees and post registration staff supporting learners in practice.

Providing expert level of support and guidance to staff supporting learners in practice.

Providing quality assurance and capacity of practice learning environments and support systems in place for learners in practice.

To evaluate, review, co-ordinate and deliver programmes of learning for new and existing learners in diverse areas of clinical practice.

The post holder will actively promote the workplace as a learning environment ensuring an integrated Trust approach to patient pathways, patient safety and workforce development.

Liaise with Universities and Further Education Colleges/ Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs) and act as the link between the Trust and the HEIs for communication.

Develop and improve professional knowledge and competence of self and others using evidence based practice as an integral part of everyday work to benefit the delivery of patient care by working clinically alongside learners and those supporting learners.

The post holder will utilise their expert knowledge to support Trust Wide adherence to corporate patient safety strategies, critically appraising new and changing models and policies.

To ensure that all programmes and teaching promote and maintain the highest standards of patient care, effective communication, optimal patient safety and robust infection prevention and control.

Work collaboratively with the Senior Nursing Team, be responsible for setting clear standards of competency and practice guidelines to be achieved and that relevant documentation is designed to support this.

The post holder will also be required to plan, design and deliver teaching within the clinical areas.

The post holder will maintain their own professional development and clinical skills through practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct.
