Clinical Teaching Fellow in Pediatrics and Obs & Gynae

Job summary

The post holder(s) will assume the role of Specialist Teaching Fellow for Paediatrics and Obs and Gynae. This will involve planning, organisation and co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of teaching undergraduate medical students from University of Sunderland (UoS) years 3 ,4 and 5, Newcastle University (NU) years 3 ,4 & 5 using multiple modalities (bedside, classroom, SIM virtual) working closely with other members of the teaching team. Working with Consultant Block Leads (UoS) and Year leads (NU) the primary role will be to deliver and facilitate teaching which covers all student paediatric learning outcomes and to ensure there is cohesive delivery of paediatric and obs and gynea curricula across both medical schools. The post holder will be a point of contact for students who require pastoral input and also be an allocated supervisor of students and their portfolios.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that both medical school exam conditions are met in relation to paediatric / obs and gynae, stations and will also be expected to undertake and perform examinations as per the universities standards. This will include quality assurance and governance of teaching within all paediatric /obs and gynae rotations.

Main duties of the job

The role will be structured around preparation, timetabling, delivery and evaluation of relevant paediatric / obs and gynea curriculum, subject to discussions within the teaching team and agreement by the Consultant Block Leads and Year leads. The post holder will contribute to assessments including formative assessments during term time and summative OSCE and MOSLER exams.

The post holder will contribute to the joint Annual Quality visits involving the Foundation Program and Undergraduate Program at University of Sunderland. The post holder will attend Senior Team Meetings and LEP liaison group where appropriate. The most challenging part of the role is working with year and block leads, teaching fellows to develop, deliver and evaluate pediatric and obs and gynae, based curriculum for University of Sunderland and Newcastle University medical students. The role will involve organizational planning (both classroom and clinical based) as well as teaching for these year groups. There will also be opportunities to shape teaching style and develop novel or innovative teaching strategies. Overseeing student clinical placement is vital to ensure experiential learning is maximized.
