An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Band 5 nurse to work on ward 36 which is our diabetes and general medical ward.

The post holder will join ward 36 and undergo training and development to gain skills and knowledge in the specialist field of diabetes as well as caring for our medical patients on the ward area.

With support from the Ward Matron and Deputy Ward Matron and multiple experienced nurses the post holder will develop skills to manage, develop, implement and evaluate care for patients with a diagnosis of diabetes. The post holder will support audit and the promotion of evidenced base care for patients with diabetes. Providing education and support to patients, carers and health care professionals is a large part of the role and we are looking for an enthusiastic and committed staff nurse who wishes to extend their expertise in this field and be a part of this innovative service.

Main duties of the job

Ward 36 is a 30 bed acute medical ward specialising in Diabetes and general medicine. We treat a wide variety of conditions including acute kidney injury, diabetes control and management, sepsis, wound management, intensive care step down patients and we treat and house patients who are predicted to be with us for a short admission.

Newly qualified nurses will be enrolled onto a preceptorship programme and remain supernumerary on the ward area until you and your manager are comfortable that you meet your competencies. You will work on a ward which is managed by a Ward Matron and a Deputy Ward Matron alongside a wider range of experienced nurses. You will be allocated a mentor/Buddy who you will shadow within your first stages of undertaking the role, you will receive an annual individual performance review to help facilitate your development. We support staff with post registration courses relevant to their field of practice at our local teaching university.
