Enteral Nurse Specialist

Job summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated nurse with excellent interpersonal skills to join our highly innovative Gastroenterology Team. The role is to provide specialist advice and support for patients who need enteral feeding and will cover working over both hospital sites in this Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including a clinical endoscopist, SALT, dietetic teams within secondary care and the community and the community enteral nutritional team to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care. The post holder will manage referrals, perform pre assessment for PEG/RIG insertion, deliver counselling and risk v benefits discussions, arrange placements and monitor progress whilst patient on ward.

The role also includes feeding tube and site care, changing feeding tubes as appropriate and manage any issues that arise and that cannot be managed by the community enteral nutritional team once discharged.

Education and training to various wards and departments will also be an important element of this role.

  • Registered General nurse educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Minimum two years post graduation experience
  • can demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • teaching certificate or equivalent evidence of mentoring staff
  • demonstrates experience in clinical care of supporting patients with nutritional needs

Desirable

  • Experience in Enteral feeding tube replacement
  • evidence of post registration development
  • non medical prescibing and or clinical assessment certification
