Job summary

The Trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioner will work toward advanced knowledge and skills in critical care and provide a direct contribution to the assessment, treatment, planning of care and evaluation of outcomes of patients with critical illness.

The successful candidate will undergo a 2 year training programme and complete a Masters Degree over 3 years. The resultant skills and knowledge will facilitate a comprehensive and autonomous role that will illustrate:

? Advanced clinical assessment and examination.

? Clinical data interpretation, investigation and treatment

? Resuscitation and first stage management

? Diagnosis and disease management

? Delivery of expert clinical interventions and treatments, including vascular access and advanced airway management.

? Professional leadership

? Teaching and supervision

Main duties of the job

  • Maintains accurate and up to date clinical records
  • Articulate clear verbal and written patient management plans
  • Is able to communicate effectively
  • Use advanced clinical history taking, clinical examination and interpretation skills
  • Prescribe and administer a range of drugs as a non-medical prescriber
  • Obtain appropriately informed consent for routine procedures
  • Perform physical assessment of patients; reviewing medication, recommend, initiate and manipulate changes according to patients clinical status.
  • Uses expert assessment skills, identifying any actual or potential problems to minimise inappropriate patient admissions
  • Facilitate timely admission and discharge from Critical Care
  • Assess patient suitability for transfer from Critical Care.
  • Demonstrates advanced assessment skills and sound judgement when dealing with complex clinical information.
