Urogynaecology Sister

Job summary

The Urogynaecology Nurse is a highly experienced, knowledgeable and educated member of the team who is able to work autonomously making high level decisions to treat health needs, encompassing aspects of education, research and management but are firmly grounded in direct care provision or clinical work with patients, families and populations

Main duties of the job

In collaboration with Urogynaecology team provide specialist support to the development, reviewing and updating of protocols, guidelines and patient information leaflets within the unit and ensure they reflect evidence-based practice.To work collaboratively with colleagues, patients and families, seek their views and to develop and improve practice and the service

Attains competence in diagnostic procedures to provide treatment for women with pelvic floor dysfunction and associated conditions.

Maintains competence as a certified Urogynaecology support nurse working with support and supervision as required by the lead clinicians.

Participate in the management of post-natal voiding dysfunction

Advises women of any required follow up and implications

Be competent in the safe use and maintenance of specific equipment and devices used within the sphere of responsibility and speciality.

Attend and be an active member of the local and regional multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings caring for women with complex urogynaecology conditions.

In collaboration with the Urogynaecology Consultant, undertake follow-up telephone calls and advice to patients who have contacted the Ward for advice regarding their treatment. Manage patient enquiries and concerns, seeking support and advice from members of the Urogynaecology team as needed whilst ensuring effective communication and documentation.

Essential

  • Current NMC registration
  • Health related degree relevant to professional registration and area of clinical practice or holds L6 post registration modules with plan to complete degree programme
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and/or recognised course/ qualification within Gynaecology chosen specialty
  • Urodynamics/ Urogynae accreditation

Desirable

  • Formal teaching or preceptorship, mentoring qualification including ENB 998/997, or equivalent
  • Member of relevant royal college, professional society

  • Significant post graduate healthcare experience, across a range of clinical specialties.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of delivering high quality clinical care using enhanced skills within gynaecology specialty aligned to the four pillars of practice.
