Job summary
We have a Band 5 vacancy in our Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital Cardiac Catheter Lab, and we are looking for a very special nurse! You will be keen to learn new skills and have an interest in acute cardiac nursing. In return, we will train you to care for cardiac patients and teach you the skills for our lab procedures. This will include working as a scrub nurse and joining our team that treats patients from across the whole of Kent who are having an acute heart attack!
Main duties of the job
Our day to day duties include the admission, post procedure care and discharge of day case cardiac patients. Our small and friendly team rotate between the roles of recovery nurse, lab circulating nurse and lab scrub nurse. A supportive training environment guided by robust competency documentation will be provided. When working in the Cath Lab, X Ray safety measures are in operation. It is necessary to wear protective lead aprons. These weigh approximately 7 KG and may need to be worn for extended periods. Applicants with musculoskeletal problems need to bear this in mind. During the training period across both sites, the nurse will rotate throughout the Labs, gaining the skills of circulating nurse and scrub nurse working alongside the cardiologist. It is imperative that you can drive. Once fully trained it is mandatory to participate the Trusts flagship 24 hour on call service at WHH for those critical STEMI (Heart Attack) cases. You will then be part of a team that literally saves life on an almost daily basis!
