Job summary
We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Gastroenterologist with a special interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease to join the William Harvey Hospital team at Ashford. We have ~ 5400 IBD patients in East Kent with ~930 on advanced therapies.
The candidate should have an interest and ideally expertise in managing complex IBD with an ability to lead and develop the trustwide IBD team in the future and to contribute to regional working groups. Short term plans include development of transition clinics and joint medical/surgical clinics for patients with complex disease in line with GIRFT recommendations.
The current trustwide IBD team led by 2 consultant Gastroenterologists includes a nurse consultant and 4 IBD nurses. We hold a fortnightly trustwide IBDMDT supported by a Histopathologist, Radiologist and Colorectal surgeons.
Outpatient templates and endoscopy lists for the appointee will be balanced towards IBD patients. for the appointee.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a keen Gastroenterologist, to join the William Harvey Hospital team at Ashford. Whether established or just starting out on your Consultant journey. We will work with you to develop your specialist interests whether these be further developing our existing services, which include HBP, Hepatology and complex polyp service, or looking to develop new services for our Trust, such as GI physiology and EUS. As a Trust, we are proud of the reputation our complex polyp service has achieved including international recognition through the annual KENT course and cohesive working with our colorectal colleagues.
The post holder will be required to support the GI Bleeding rota and a currently 1:8 Gastroenterology ward week, including in-reach to the emergency pathways.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the management of inpatient and outpatient Gastroenterology and contribute to the development of specialist services.
The post holder will provide appropriate care, diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients presenting with gastroenterological illnesses to our inpatient and outpatient areas and contribute towards the site-based GI bleed rota. The gastroenterology consultant teams (when covering the wards) on each acute site provide In-reach and referral services to ED/AMU and other wards. The teams are supported by junior doctors, physician associates and specialist nurses. In addition to inpatient services, the post holder should aim to provide two OPD clinics per week and two general endoscopy lists, plus a session dedicated to a specialist interest.
