Clinical Nurse Specialist - Children's Diabetes

Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated nurse with goodknowledge and understanding of the management of childhood diabetesand who is committed to working with and supporting children, youngpeople and their families.

For candidates considering developing their career within the specialty and not currently meeting the outlined criteria, appointment to a training post will be considered. Appointment will be at Band 6 with progression to Band 7 following completion of specialist training and supervision.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will manage a designated clinical caseload.Use clinical judgment and autonomous decision making about thespecialist nursing care and management of children and young people with diabetes.

Be clinically competent in all areas of advanced practice and equipmentuse relating to the current management of childhood diabetes e.g. insulininjection and pump therapy, blood glucose and sensor monitoring.Adhere to and implement the Trust policy in relation to Child SafeguardingSupport key partners within both the community and acute settings andwork collaboratively and effectively with all other health care professionals, those allied to health and those in the third sector services.Provide leadership and direct line-management for a small team of staffsupporting them to care for a caseload of children and young people.Facilitate teamwork across the multidisciplinary team to deliver a highstandard diabetes service to children, adolescents, families and carers.Participate in a regular review of the responsibilities of the multidisciplinary team as a service provider, examining the structure and processes against all criteria identified in the Best Practice Tariff, National Paediatric Diabetes Audit and Peer review.Assist the Lead Nurse and deputise in their absence.

  • Degree relevant to professional registration and area of clinical practice.
