This is an exciting time to join the Acute Stroke Service in the East Kent University Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust (EKHUFT) ! Our service is expanding to a brand new 54 bedded purpose built new acute stroke service re-located at the William Harvey Hospital in 2027 and system funded local stroke Mechanical Thrombectomy service at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital. In preparation for all these service developments, we are now uplifting our stroke nursing workforce to continue providing one of the best stroke care in the country. We have opportunities for you to join our wonderful team of hyperacute nurses! This post includes 100% clinical work and rota based working on nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be a member within hyperacute Stroke Team. The post holder will be responsible for responding to all urgent stroke calls, facilitating rapid assessment of patients, timely stroke diagnosis and commencing appropriate hyperacute care protocol to eligible individuals for treatment targets. And provide level -2 nursing care during hyperacute stage for best clinical outcome of patients. The role will be responsible for providing 24/7-hour comprehensive high-standard front-door and in-patient stroke care.

You will be an autonomous practitioner working in collaboration with the wide stroke multidisciplinary team. The post holder is expected to rotate between ward-base and front-door 24/7 as per the Roster allocation. All aspects of nursing care should be delivered in line with the NMC Code of Practice and relevant service SOPs, Trust policies and procedures.

The post holder will play a crucial role in consistent achievement of stroke specific national and local quality standards including robust documentations to support the local and national stroke audits (SSNAP as part of the Governance and Quality process).

The post holder is expected to put a patient in the centre of all actions and consistently advocate for positive patient experience. This role also includes clinical leadership and management responsibilities to support the HSN-Team Leader, junior members of the team and ASU nurses.
