Job summary

Applicants are invited to apply for an ST1 Trust Doctor post in General Medicine across our Acute site William Harvey Hospital. This post will be fixed term for 12 months.

Within the General and Specialist Medicine Care group is Cardiology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Health Care of Older People, Neurology, Renal, Rheumatology, and respiratory departments.

Applicants must have full GMC registration with a licence to practice and have completed the UK foundation programme or equivalent.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be expected to cover forabsence of colleagues (including on call cover) atshort notice, e.g. sickness. Cover outside the Rotarequiring extra hours of work will be paid asadditional work at nationally agreed rates and willbe coordinated to be compliant with the relevantlegislation.It is expected that the post holder will play anactive part in the training of junior medical staff.They will also be expected to supervise, educateand assist medical students.The post holder should take an active part inclinical audit, journal club and departmentalteaching sessions. Regular appraisals will occurand the post holder will be expected to take partin CPD.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • Shall have completed at least four years postgraduate training, at least two of which will be in a relevant training programme
  • Recent experience working in a general/specialist medicine role.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate proficiently in the English language and has one of the following qualifications; PLAB, IELTS (academic module) or GCSE English Language at Grade B or above.

Desirable

  • Possession of primary or final specialty qualification
  • Related Registrar experience in Variety of medicine specialties

Clinical/Technical Expertise

Essential

  • Basic Medical Qualification (eg MBBS or MB ChB)MRCP ALS
  • Possesses range of clinical knowledge, skills and information technology expertise.
  • Sees patients within a holistic context Ability to work well with colleagues and within a team
  • Ability to use the evidence base and clinical audit to support decision-making

Desirable

  • In depth expertise in at least one field within the specialty
  • Have completed APLS/EPLS provider course.
  • Audit projects every 6 - 12 months
