Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Orthopaedic (Plaster) Practitioner in our Fracture Clinic at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.
The role will be working clinically as a member of the Plaster team. The successful post holder will be keen to develop basic competencies in casting and will be prepared to undertake extensive training for at least 1 year to develop enhanced competencies.
This will lead to undertaking a fully funded formal nationally recognised 6 week residential course in casting at Stanmore Orthopaedic Hospital in London.
The successful applicant will have a Senior Healthcare Assistant, Technician, Associate Practitioner or Nursing Associate background along with basic knowledge of the human anatomy.
The Trainee Orthopaedic Practitioner will work as a Band 3 whilst training and until successful completion of the BOA Casting Qualification when they will progress to a Band 4. This career pathway can lead to a Band 5 Senior Orthopaedic Practitioner role on completion of 2 years experience
Main duties of the job
The fracture clinic, including plaster room, provides a comprehensive outpatient service and inpatient service for both adult and paediatric patients who have been referred by clinical staff, from A&E, the fracture clinic, orthopaedic clinics and the wards.
You will provide an excellent service for patients/relative/carers and staff. You will be able to exchange factual evidence based clinical and technical information with patients using persuasion, reassurance tact and empathy. You will be able to manage effectively and efficiently a range of information which may be complex or sensitive.
You will provide professional and timely communication links between patients/relatives/carers and medical/clinical staff is essential to ensure channels of communication are efficient and effective at all times.
