Job summary

As part of the Care Group leadership team, to support the Heads of Midwifery and Maternity Senior leadership team to provide leadership and strategic direction for the Maternity Service.

Ensuring the delivery of high quality safe, effective, harm free person-centred care consistent with the Trust values, the Trust's Quality Strategy and the Maternity and Neonatal Improvement Programme using available resources effectively and efficiently, and supporting achievement of the Trust's vision and strategic objectives

Main duties of the job

To assist the senior leadership team in delivering professional and operational leadership of Maternity services within the Care Group, including devising, implementing and reviewing strategies for the development of clinical practice, education, and management and quality issues.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will act as the deputy delegated lead for safety, quality and patient experience with a particular focus on oversight of people management including sickness, appraisals and rota management. The postholder will also undertake targeted Quality Improvement projects and will act as a senior resource and support for the Matron team.

The post holder is required to maintain clinical credibility by spending targeted time in clinical practice as required across the range of services within the Maternity Service.

Provide a visible and effective presence for Midwifery teams for assistance, guidance, support and an effective role model for staff. To achieve this overall objective the deputy Head of Midwifery , will work closely with the MNVP, peers in other care groups and external stakeholders.

Model and embed a workforce culture within Maternity that is consistent with Trust values.

Work with senior midwives to evolve and progress the MNIP

Be pro-active with regards to midwifery innovation, use of technology and quality improvement initiatives to meet the changing needs of patients and service users.

To ensure the midwifery resource is used effectively, contributing to continuous improvement, increased productivity and realisation of benefits within financial cost improvement savings.

To promote and aid with the development, within the Care Group, of a sustainable workforce plan that recruits the highest quality staff and retains staff through developing and motivate the current workforce.

Ensure highest standards of clinical and corporate governance, ensuring that Maternity operates within Trust governance, risk and patient safety frameworks.

Assist the senior team with the development of strategies for the future provision of services in partnership with key stakeholders, including quality and productivity improvements through technology, innovation and research. This includes Participation and support the care groups clinical and non-clinical governance .

Engage staff in service improvement and ensure they understand how their role aligns within the Care Group and Trust objectives.

In conjunction with the senior team ensure that the standard of care is consistent with Trust understood by staff, and provide assurance that they are met
