A vacancy has arisen for suitably qualified, committed and enthusiastic individual with experience in Pathology, a busy lab reception or general office setting. The suitable candidate would ideally have a level 3 qualification or equivalent in experience. They would have good literacy and numeracy skills as well as keyboard or administration experience.
The post is currently 30 hours a week, however, we are committed to a healthy work-life balance; therefore, we would be happy to consider flexible working across 7 days a week. There may also be the opportunity for full time hours (37.5 per week) in the near future if this was required.

Main duties of the job
As a Senior AHCS, reception and office lead you will support the clinical laboratory service as well as the reception and general office business. You will be responsible for the organisation and provision of Microbiology specimen reception and office, training and supervising Assistant Healthcare Scientists rotating through the area.
The role will also include the oversight of some of other administrative duties for Microbiology, delivering high standards of service delivery, flexibility and adaptability.
You will work in any section of the laboratory and undertake duties to support Biomedical Scientists in the preparation and examination of biological samples.

About us
The Microbiology Service is centralised at the William Harvey site and is a Specialist Clinical Virology laboratory as well as a member of the UK Clinical Mycology Network, holding Specialist Mycology Service. The service is clinically led by 5 highly experienced Consultant Microbiologists and we also have an expanding team of Clinical Scientists.The Microbiology department processes in excess of 600 thousand tests per year. We have an extensive repertoire and scope of practice with much of the latest high-quality innovation and technology, for instance Maldi-ToF, Biofire film array, Elite Ingenius molecular platform, 2 Alinity M molecular platform's, Serosep Enteric PCR, Luminex respiratory PCR, Biomek i5 robotic extraction platform, Liaison XLs,IQ Sprints, Virtuo automated blood culture platforms on 2 hospital sites, BeckmanCoulter Microscan (broth dilution) for AST and Autoplak automation for plate inoculation. We are busy expanding our Mycology service having recently introduced the Galactomannan test to accompany our anti-fungal susceptibility testing.

Job responsibilities
To be responsible for management of reception and office duty rosters, to ensure adequate service cover at all times.
To be actively involved in the induction and training of new staff in reception, data entry duties and telephone enquiries.
To provide limited secretarial support when required to the Head Biomedical Scientist, Consultant Microbiologists and other medical staff including:
Managing Consultants e-rostering; typing, issuing and saving file copies of patient related correspondence; arranging meetings and calendar/diary management on Outlook; weekly CPD schedule.
To raise orders on Business World ordering system and NHS Supplies; match delivery notes with invoices and receipt, file electronically and manually.
To liaise with Suppliers, Procurement Services and Finance. Process orders, deal with queries regarding goods (e.g. damage, shortage, non-delivery) when required.
To produce and review the Reception and Office Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and ensure that staff adhere to the SOP.
To raise invoices for income generation from private sector
Deal with enquiries from Trust legal team
To collect, sort and prioritize incoming/outgoing mail.
To maintain personnel filing.
To ensure NHS numbers are registered against specimens when prompted by non-compliance lists.
To produce and issue copies of results reports using LIMS.
To enter patient information onto the Pathology LIMS to ensure patient information is accurate and available in a timely manner.
To perform all duties given under supervision of HPC registered BMSs. All Laboratory procedures and practices are to be carried out in accordance with the appropriate Standard Operational Procedure and Health and Safety guidelines.
To maintain laboratory policy for protective equipment to ensure personal safety.
Follow Trust and Departmental policies and procedures
To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and participate in 7 day working pattern as well as the extended day service where required.
