Job summary

We have a new and exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the teams at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital, Margate and the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford. This post will be in our new developing service in the acute ITUs and will work alongside other AHPs delivering a holistic service

  • To manage daily a clinical specialist caseload in ITU (also surgical wards at QEQM) and be responsible for the assessment, formulation and treatments and to give highly specialised therapy advice to members of the MDT.
  • To deputise for Team Leader on clinical and managerial issues within the team.
  • To be actively involved with training within the Department.

We offer vast opportunities for CPD and learning across the ITU / Surgical Team with regular IST. Upon joining us we will support you with your progression (and can also offer a developmental post from a band 5 to a 6) both clinically and with leadership skills.

Main duties of the job

Assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of holistic therapy intervention for patients on ITU and surgical wards.

To be an integral part in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients in this clinical area.

The development of integrated care programmes and discharge plan with the patient.

Line management (including clinical supervision) of staff (e.g. Band 5, therapy assistants and students).

Provide professional advice and leadership.

To actively work as a member of the multi-professional team to provide high quality therapy intervention to patients.

Manage a caseload of patients on a daily basis consisting of patients with complex needs associated within ITU / Surgery.

Clinicians working at this level will be expected to evaluate their outcomes, review non-responding cases either with their peers or clinical specialists and refer on as appropriate using documented clinical reasoning.

We have had significant funding to increase staffing across 7 days as well as across ITU, Stroke and the establishment of Frailty Assessment Units as well as a brand new Elective Orthopaedic Centre. Therapy services are recognised and respected across the Trust as being integral to safe and effective patient care.

This vacancy sits within the wider Clinical Support Services Care Group which provides essential services within the patient pathway. The Care Group is extremely diverse and is comprised of Audiology, Outpatients, Medical Physics, Pathology, Pharmacy, Radiology and Therapies specialties.
