An exciting opportunity has arisen within Women's Health care Group for a new member to join the management team in the role of Principal Radiographer for Women's Health services. This post holder will be the clinical and operational lead.

You would be joining the team at an exciting time where the vision for our department is being shaped for the future and as Principal you would play a pivotal role in leading the changes across all of our sites, working with both internal and external stakeholders and imaging networks to promote and deliver excellence.

Main duties of the job

The Principal Radiographer will be a champion in their field of work, bringing innovative solutions to patient care. The role defines professional development and influences at strategic level. As such, you will play a pivotal role in the integration of clinical practice, education and research findings. You will be able to initiate clinical service developments and deliver improved outcomes for our patients.

The Care Group is currently undertaking a transfer of services from Radiology. It is an exciting opportunity for the you to lead with the sonographer team supported by the senior care group to shape and embed tailored service to fit around the direction women's health services endeavor to achieve, providing holistic care and support for women throughout their pathways.

Women's Health Services work across all 3 acute sites as well the satellites sites. As a large acute Trust we strive to provide key services locally to our patients and are continually striving to deliver efficient and effective patient-centered services.

There are opportunities to progress in advance practices within women's health services. In collaboration with General radiology there are also opportunities to pick up waiting lists initiatives including CT, MRI, mammography and ultrasound, MSK and chest x-ray reporting to support ongoing competencies.

Job responsibilities

We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking team player with good inter-professional skills to lead this change and develop the service and teams moving forwards.

KEY RESULT AREAS

  • To act as the service lead for all womens health Ultrasound services across the Trust, being accountable for the development and delivery of consistent care group service standards for Women Health Services. Working in partnership with the Nursing and Midwifery, Clinical Site leads and General Managers in ensuring the effective deployment of all staff resources.
  • The post holder will act as a line manager for all sonographers and trainees within the Womens health Care group.
  • Working closely with the Operational managers with daily operational management (capacity and demand) and of womens health ultrasound across the Trust
  • To provide professional and specialist support to staff working in ultrasound.
  • To work in collaboration with the Screening Midwifery team to maintain an effective and sustainable delivery of services of the NHS Fetal Anomaly Screening Programmes (FASP) pathway.
  • Responsible for the management and development of the womens health ultrasound service, including obstetric screening programme needs.
  • To attend perinatal and obstetric discrepancy meetings, be responsible for the governance and risk management matters relating to the obstetric/gynaecological aspects of the service
  • To be part of the senior management team and to report matters appertaining to the womens health c ultrasound service.
  • To retain clinical ultrasound skills and perform an agreed number of clinical sessions on a regular basis.
  • Together with the General Manager to be responsible for ultrasound service continuity.
  • To ensure robust contingency plans are in place to ensure womens health services continuity on all sites to agreed standards.
  • To be a budget signatory and to support General Manager in budget management as appropriate. To be responsible for ensuring value for money and that adequate controls are in place in relation to consumables.
  • To support the General manager in ensuring access times for womens health ultrasound service are delivered and maintained across the care group. To identify and deliver action plans as required in line with national and trust requirements.

  • To support managerial responsibility for the womens health ultrasound service ensuring that there are systems in place and appropriate staff identified for:
  1. Managing leave
  2. Managing sickness
  3. Site specific meetings (e.g. HOD, Estates Strategy etc.) as agreed
  4. Department infrastructure maintenance and support.

  • To perform appraisals for direct reports and to ensure a timely appraisal programme for the care group non-medical staff, including objective setting and personal development plans.
  • To provide senior sonographers with support and guidance on service delivery and continuity issues.
  • To keep General Manager informed of base site and ultrasound issues in a timely manner and addressing of issues appertaining to the delivery of the service.
  • To attend relevant meetings, as directed, to represent the care group internally and externally to the Trust.
  • Support the General Manager in an ongoing review of ultrasound services from an operational planning perspective, understanding demand and capacity, changes in clinical practice and the resources required to deliver on the expected targets.
  • To provide a management presence on all sites ensuring there are robust systems for authorising and recording absence and escalating to the General Managers when they arise
  • The post holder will ensure that staff work within corporate and Clinical Governance frameworks of the Trust.
  • Responding to complaints and incidents as and when required in a timely manner. To lead and support investigations including Serious incidents as and when required.
  • To ensure the safety of self, staff and patients/visitors with regard to the use of non-ionising radiation in accordance with the appropriate regulations.
  • To ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and local arrangements for confidentiality of patients and staff information.
  • In accordance with the Health Act (2006) all staff are expected to comply with National and local Infection Control policies and procedures and any other related infection prevention policies or procedures.
