Job summary

Ward Manager - Band 7

The Ward Manager will lead and manage the Gynaecology Ward as a senior nurse, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care. The role involves clinical leadership, operational management, staff development, and service improvement. The postholder will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective care for women undergoing gynaecological treatment and procedures. This includes ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and patient-centred care, while supporting staff development and service improvement in line with Trust values and national standards. The post-holder will manage resources within the department to ensure high standards of patient care, while promoting positive patient experience. The role will involve clinically leading and mentoring staff, implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring efficient patient flow. You will support the matron with operational duties, help maintain clinical standards, and support the ward in developing and enhancing services. You must have a high level of emotional resilience, and be able to manage complex and challenging behaviours and issues.

Main duties of the job

Lead the nursing team, ensuring high standards of evidence-based care.Undertake and document comprehensive nursing assessments.Promote patient safety and excellent patient experience through best practices.Be a visible and accessible presence on the ward, offering support to staff, patients, and families

Oversee the day-to-day running of the ward, including staffing, rotas, and resource allocations.Ensure effective patient flow, timely admissions and discharges, and coordination with bed management teams.Manage ward budgets and ensure cost-effective use of resources.

Supervise, appraise, and support the professional development of nursing and support staff.Ensure mandatory training and competency packages are completed.Address underperformance and promote a positive team culture.

Lead clinical audits and implement improvements based on findings.Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control policies.Investigate complaints and incidents, ensuring learning is shared across the team.

Maintain excellent communication with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).Facilitate collaborative working across services to ensure continuity of care.Promote patient and carer involvement in care planning and ward activities.Ensure safeguarding protocols are followed for vulnerable adults and children.Identify and mitigate clinical risks, ensuring safe care delivery

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration.
  • BSC/1st Degree in Nursing or equivalent
