Job summary
Theatres Practice Educator band 7 full time 37.5 hours per week
We require an experienced Practice Educator to work within our operating theatre departments at Epsom General Hospital to support staff in developing the advanced skills required to provide effective nursing care . Excellent clinical, leadership and communication skills are essential along with the ability to work in an innovative way. The successful candidate will be passionate about education, quality and safety as well as acting as an excellent role model.
The ideal candidate must be a Registered Nurse or ODP with experience of operating department nursing. The ability to build relationships with staff at all stages of their career to support them with the development of skills and competencies is essential.

Main duties of the job
To be a clinical expert in all levels of Theatre nursing and to provide 'hands on' supervision of staff in clinical practice to promote the acquisition of new skills and knowledge.
In conjunction with team leaders and other members of the unit education team to be responsible for the assessment, supervision and development of all members of the nursing team.
In conjunction with other members of the unit education team to contribute to the planning, development and implementation of education and training programmes and opportunities for all members of the nursing staff.
To jointly co-ordinate, develop and manage the Theatre preceptorship course, Student Nurse / ODP's on Placement
To assist in the co-ordination and development of the Induction of new staff in Theatres
To be part of the Theatre Coordinator Team and cover any Coordinator shifts when colleagues are unavailable.
To carry out audits and reviews of practice and policies within the unit
To lead, or contribute to, the development of clinical practice polices and evidence-based practice as appropriate
To lead, or contribute to, the implementation of new policies and procedures
