Locum Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Epilepsy

Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit a Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in Epilepsy to Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, St Helier Hospital, to help deliver our service in the boroughs of Merton and Sutton.

This post is a replacement post and will be based at St Helier hospital.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the acute General Paediatric team during working hours to provide routine day to day acute paediatric services.

We currently offer our patients a wide range of acute paediatric and community services including Epilepsy which this post is expected to contribute to.

The post holder would contribute to Epilepsy, including Complex Epilepsy and General Paediatrics outpatient activity.

The post holder will be attending Consultant on a 1 in 5 week basis and on the General Paediatric ward and join the on call team with a 1 in 8 on call frequency.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will play a crucial role in ensuring the team continue to deliver a high quality service and will be involved in strategic planning of services with our local partners. The post holder will join a team of 13 Acute Paediatric Consultants and 2 Associate Specialists. There are also 14 middle grade and 16 junior doctors on the acute paediatric and neonatal rotas, in addition to Clinical Nurse Specialist for Epilepsy, Asthma, Allergy, Diabetes and Neurodisability.

Routine educational activities include weekly junior doctor teaching programme in addition to Quality meetings, Child Protection Peer review and Mortality & Morbidity meetings run as part of the monthly programme. There will be opportunities to build and further teaching and training ambitions, as we have middle grade trainees within the department

  • Entry onto the Specialist Register for GMC or be within six months of obtaining CCT
  • Appropriate higher medical qualification i.e. MRCPH or equivalent
  • APLS and NLS provider

  • MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research
  • APLS instructor

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • High standard of Training, clinical skills and expertise in the Acute General Paediatrics and Special interest in Epilepsy
  • Able to contribute to the full range of skills required for the on call rota for the specialty
  • Safeguarding level 3 training

Desirable

  • Evidence of further training and experience in Childhood Epilepsy
  • Evidence of interest in Neurodisability
