Job summary

An opportunity has arisen at Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust to join our Macmillan Cancer Support Worker Team (CSW). The successful applicant willwork alongside an established team of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and medical colleagues supporting patients being investigated and treated for cancer.

Main duties of the job

The main focus of the Macmillan Cancer Support Workers is to support people to navigate the complex health and social care system during and following completion of cancer treatment. The post holder will coordinate care by providing a single point of access, including rapid re-entry into the system for those people identified as having urgent or specialist needs; and coordinate care, education and support for people with non-complex care needs.

Education, Formal Training and Qualifications

Essential

  • GSCE Grades A - C/ 'O' Maths and English
  • Willingness to undertake further education and training

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent or working towards

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Experience as a support worker/administrator in a health service environment
  • Experience of working with complex and sensitive issues on a day to day basis, including contact with patients who may be distressed

Desirable

  • Experience working in NHS acute trust and/ or multidisciplinary workforce
  • Experience of working with cancer patients and their families

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Able to work autonomously and unsupervised where appropriate
