Are you a Band 5 nurse looking to work in Critical Care (ICU/HDU)? We would love you to come and join our Critical Care Team at Epsom and St Helier University NHS Hospital.

We have vacancies available on St.Helier ICU for motivated and enthusiastic nurses keen to join our team and develop critical care skills. We currently provide 21 beds cross-site.

STH ICU has a footprint of 13 beds, admitting medical, surgical, renal & obstetric emergencies requiring level 2 & level 3 critical care.

EGH HDU/ICU has a footprint of 8 beds, admitting elective surgical patients requiring level 2 post-operative care &, medical emergencies requiring level 2 & level 3 care.

We are looking for highly motivated and innovative individuals who have a strong interest in caring for critically ill patients, to recruit to Band 5 staff nurse positions. Nurses new to critical care are expected to complete our Intensive Care Foundation Programme. Following successful completion of this programme there is the opportunity to undertake an academic Intensive Care qualification. Once established as a critical care nurse, we are committed to providing on-going workplace development to support you through your critical care nursing career.

In order to fulfil the job role and learning requirements and meet service needs, successful candidates will be required to work cross-site, internal rotation days/nights/weekends & BH.

Main duties of the job

JOB PURPOSE

  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care within sphere of responsibility.
  • Works cooperatively and collaboratively with multi-disciplinary colleagues to deliver high standards of care to critically ill patients and ensures plans of care reflect current patient care needs.
  • Is aware and adheres to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • To provide quality, holistic care of a high standard to both the critically ill patients and their families within Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.
  • To liaise and co-operate with other relevant departments within the hospital.
  • To act as a resource for peers, patients, relatives, carers and other staff groups
  • To participate in the unit and nursing service development in a proactive manner
  • To ensure safe patient care, staff may be asked, at short notice, to work at either Epsom General Hospital or St Helier Hospital ICU/HDU. This decision would be made by the ICU/HDU Matron, having taken into account staffing, skill mix, patient dependency and acuity and capacity within both units
