Grants and Funds Engagement Manager

Job summary

We are excited to be recruiting aGrants and Funds Engagement Manager to join our small but ambitious team. Reporting to the Head of Charity, you'll play a key role in delivering our bold three-year strategy, driving meaningful impact for patients, their families and staff by managing our evolving grants programme.

Main duties of the job

You will oversee our Special Purpose Fund (SPF) portfolio, working closely with staff teams to help shape and deliver high-impact projects, ensuring funds are used effectively and in line with organisational priorities and guidance.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys both strategic thinking and hands-on delivery. You will lead on strengthening our grants processes and systems, and work collaboratively with colleagues across Charity Finance, Fund Advisors, Divisional Directors, and the wider team to ensure funds make a real difference where they are needed most.

A key part of this role involves working in partnership with St George's Hospital Charity on joint funding opportunities and shared initiatives across our hospital group.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing charity at a crucial stage in its development. As part of our team, you'll help shape how we fund projects, communicate their impact, and uncover unmet needs that will inform future fundraising appeals and strategic priorities.

This role will deputise for the Head of Charity when required and represent the Charity across all areas, not limited to Grants. You will be ready to step up and take on broader responsibilities as needed.

Grant Programme Management

  • Coordinate the charitys grant making application process, including promoting opportunities, providing first point of contact and review, and supporting applicants throughout the process.

  • Ensure all applications are assessed fairly and in line with charity policy, offering guidance to ensure a positive and supportive applicant experience.

  • Contribute to impact reporting, helping to demonstrate the difference funded projects make to patients, staff and services.

  • Work with the Head of Charity to implement improved policies and systems that support grant giving and drive efficiency.

Strategic Fund Management

  • Identify opportunities to rationalise our fund portfolio by removing unnecessary restrictions on underused funds, reinvigorating dormant ones and creating new expenditure opportunities. This will involved close collaboration with clinical teams, Divisional Directors and Charity Finance.

  • Work with the Head of Charity to align grant expenditure with areas of the Trusts CARE Strategy.

  • Support the development of the annual grants budgets and spending targets, with a particular focus on the general unrestricted fund.

  • Lead the creation and implementation of a Fund Advisor handbook, ensuring all Fund Advisors follow best practice, internal policies and Charity Commission guidance.

  • Lead on engagement with Fund Advisors, including stewardship, relationship building, and communications that promote greater awareness, encourage fund usage, and support income generation in collaboration with the Fundraising Team.

  • Monitor and analyse fund activity with Charity Finance, proactively identifying underused funds and working with stakeholders to develop spending and income plans where needed.

  • Support the development of improved guidance and processes, and provide regular reporting to the Head of Charity, Charitable Funds Committee and Corporate Trustee Board on fund performance and impact.
