Job summary
Antenatal and Newborn screening programmes aim to detect conditions that arepresent in either the mother or baby that might have an adverse effect on the health ofeither. Pregnant women and newborn babies are offered screening tests as anintegrated and linked part of their care. Optimal screening programmes requireeffective team working across a number of professional groups, departments andorganisations. Trust programmes are benchmarked against national and locallyagreed standards; and audit and performance monitoring is seen as essential toassure the safety and effectiveness of the service.The post holder will have overall responsibility to provide efficient and effectiveadministration of the six national ANNB screening programmes; Newborn Hearing, Newborn Bloodspot, Newborn and Infant Physical Examination, Infectious diseases inpregnancy, Haemoglobinopathies and Fetal Anomaly. They will also maintain anaccurate screening database and provide accurate statistical information.The post holder is responsible to the Antenatal clinic and screening matron but willwork closely with each member of the maternity screening team based within the Trustacross the two sites at Epsom and St Helier.
Main duties of the job
- To develop and then maintain an active database for the National Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) screening programmes including Newborn Bloodspot (NBBS), Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE), Infectious diseases in pregnancy, Haemoglobinopathies and Fetal Anomaly.
- Responsible for checking the quality of data entered onto the failsafe systems and filing systems, to ensure that all national standards are maintained and reportable.
- To coordinate close interaction by the ANNB Screening Coordinators, ward, clinic and community midwives, paediatricians and Newborn Hearing Screening Team to ensure failsafe systems remain robust and ANNB services run smoothly.
- To liaise and correspond with the appropriate external service providers as well as GP's Referrers and patients regarding appointments, results and follow up care.
- To be responsible for answering telephone enquiries and referring to other members of the Department as appropriate and when required contact and refer to other trusts /external providers.
- To provide detailed analysis to the ANNB Screening Coordinators for the quarterly KPI's and annual reporting as well as provide daily analysis of impended breaches on Failsafe Systems and to action these appropriately to meet service specifications.
- Attend MDT meetings with the ANNB Screening Coordinators regarding patients care and any external regional / national update meetings.
