Job summary
Based at Epsom General Hospital, SWLEOC is a partnership commissioned by four South West London acute hospital Trusts and provides routine and complex elective and non-urgent emergency orthopaedic surgery services to patients aged over 18.
SWLEOC was rated as Outstanding by the CQC in their 2016 report.
SWLEOC is one the largest hip and knee replacement centre in the UK and one of the largest in the world. It performs around 6,300 procedures per year with some patients referred from around the UK and internationally. Sub-specialties include hip and knee arthroplasty and revisions surgery, a young adult hip service, shoulder and elbow soft tissue and arthroplasty surgery and spinal surgery.
There are two 27-bed inpatient wards and a 17-bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), which includes a Day Case Unit, all of which are covered by consultant intensivists. There is an outpatients department for clinics and research clinics. There are six laminar flow operating theatres.
Main duties of the job
The post-holders will spend in Outpatient Clinic or in theatre as first assistant to the Consultant Surgeons. There will be the opportunity to contribute to audits, service and research.
The post is full time, 40 hours per week, and does not include any on call commitments. The opportunity for additional work on Saturdays is also available on an ad hoc basis.
