Job summary

An opportunity has become available due to Maternity Leave for an experienced pharmacist to lead and deliver an excellent clinical pharmacy service to the renal unit, its satellite dialysis centres, home haemodialysis patients and to members of the wider multidisciplinary team. This post is available as a secondment or fixed term placement for 12 months.

We're proud of the service provided at the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit by our talented, dedicated and caring multidisciplinary renal team. Pharmacy staff are recognised as essential members of the renal healthcare team, and you'll get to see first-hand the impact and value of your contribution to the team.

We serve a population of approximately 2 million with more than 900 patients receiving haemodialysis based at the main site at St Helier Hospital and the seven supporting satellite dialysis units, a further 100 patients receiving peritoneal dialysis and around 900 patients with a functioning renal transplant.

The main unit based at St Helier Hospital is home to two renal inpatient wards with a total of 42 beds.

Main duties of the job

The role covers all aspects of medicines optimisation, including encouraging compliance with the joint formulary and supporting patient adherence to complex medication regimes. You will promote the safe, effective, and economic use of medicines in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

You will lead and participate in medicines projects that deliver benefits to the renal population and assist in the training and assessment of a range of staff who rotate through the renal unit.

You will need excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to organise and prioritise your work. You will manage the renal pharmacy team and be responsible for all HR issues. We will provide appropriate training to aid your personal and professional development.

Please note we provide a 7-day operation, so you will be required to participate in the weekend and bank holiday rota, covering 1 weekend in 7.

Taking up this post could be the start of something wonderful and the best decision you make this year. If it's time for a change, don't delay - submit your application today! Tell us in your application how you meet the essential criteria in the person specification attached to the job description.
