Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic doctorat FY2 level or above to join the Trauma & Orthopaedics team at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.This posts offers excellent opportunity for a doctor wishing to enhance their CVs and gain experience in T&O before commencing specialty training. The post holder will gain experience working on the junior on call rota. Candidates will be assigned an educational and clinical supervisor who will provide support, career guidance and mentoring. There will be access to e-portfolio to document work-based assessments and reflective learning completed during this time.In addition, the Trust is committed to the educational development of medical staff within this programme and candidates will have access to study leave and the opportunity to undertake/participate in one or more of the following:o QIPPo Teaching including simulation teachingo Research (where offered)o Postgraduate certificate in Medical Educationo Teach the Teacherso Attend scheduled teaching and journal clubso Exposure to clinics / procedureso EWTD compliant rotas
About us
The Trauma and Orthopaedic department is one of the largest Orthopaedic departments in the region serving a population in excess of 430,000.
The department runs a 24h consultant led trauma service with individual consultants being on call 1:2weekdays which includes an all-day consultant led trauma list. The weekend on call is 1:12 which includes scheduled trauma lists on Saturday and Sunday. St Helier Hospital is a designated trauma unit as part of the South West London Trauma Network with close links to the major trauma centre at St George's Hospital in Tooting. The trauma workload is varied and within the department, consultants have subspecialty trauma interests.
St Helier Hospital has the second highest number of admissions for neck of femur fractures within the M25 region and the Trust has been amongst the top performing hospitals on the National Hip Fracture Database over the last two years.
Elective inpatient and day surgery is carried out at Epsom General Hospital and the renowned Elective Orthopaedic Centre, which is one of the busiest orthopaedic units in Europe. Almost all aspects of elective Orthopaedics is catered for barring bone tumours and peripheral nerve injuries.
