Job summary

This role is to assist Occupational Therapists in providing a high standard of therapy services to in-patients at St. Helier Hospital and to undertake duties to support the smooth functioning of the therapy departments and service. All new support workers, including therapy Technical Instructors, are required to undertake the Care Certificate, which is the start of the career journey for Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs). The aim of the Care Certificate is to ensure that all new and existing support staff are taught and can demonstrate the right skills, knowledge and behavior to provide high quality compassionate care.

Main duties of the job

To work closely with Occupational Therapists, Multidisciplinary Teams and other professionals. Particularly in relation to patient enablement, and to assist in the development of good working relationships with statutory, voluntary and independent organisations.

Complete screening for clients referred to the service, and feeding back to the relevant Occupational Therapist or team, undertake delegated therapeutic technical rehabilitation using innovation, reporting client progress back to the Occupational Therapist.

Work in conjunction with colleagues in the implementation of occupational therapy interventions for clients within the specified clinical/technical area of competency.

To work independently with clients, under the guidance of qualified staff, to carry out specified activities and therapy interventions.

Provide effective feedback to occupational therapists, including changes in the patients' condition and any relevant information appropriate to the patient care, utilising judgment and analytical skills.
