Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 Non clinical Coordinator to join the Acute medical unit at Epsom Hospital.

We are a 34-bed unit taking medical admissions directly from the Emergency Department.The post holder will co-ordinate the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) in a non-clinical role, facilitating the smooth running of all aspects of AMU, ensuring that patients are reviewed daily by the medical team and either discharged to the appropriate place of care i.e. home or that they are admitted to theappropriate speciality bed in a timely manner, utilizing the discharge lounge where appropriate.In this varied and exciting role you will be a key member of the Multidisciplinary team and will work closely with the Nurse in charge to coordinate the daily smooth running of the unit.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the senior nurse on duty by running the daily MultiDisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, alongside the Acute Physicians. To do this they will need to make sure they have an overview of all the patients on the AMU, ensuring all patients have an Expected Date of Discharge (EDD) and specialty allocated to aid in them being transferred to the appropriate specialty ward. They will also need to feedimportant jobs back to the nurses caring for each patient by holding a short meeting with them after the MDT.The post holder will need to regularly update the Clinical Site Management team by providing them with the number of discharges and up to date EDD's, along with escalating any delays in the transfer of patients off the AMU as soon as they become apparent.

They will also need to liaise with the site team in regards to what specialty beds are coming up so they can allocate and move the correct patient into them soon as possible.The post holder will coordinate the flow of patients into the AMU from ED.This is not exclusive of the duties the post holder will have.
