Job summary

As a Porter Manager within Epsom & St Helier University Hospital's, your primary role is to ensure the efficient and effective management of the porter services, playing a vital role in the smooth running of healthcare facilities. Your overarching purpose is to lead and supervise a team of porters, overseeing their day-to-day activities and promoting exceptional service delivery.

Main duties of the job

  • The operational management of Portering, Postal Services, blood collection, specimens, medical gas, pharmacy, waste operational management.
  • Ensure Epsom & St Helier Hospital's, Trustwide tasks are completed in a safe, timely and efficient manner, within operational constraints and available resources.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the effective recruitment, induction, staff development and deployment of all portering services.
  • To fully support the Patient- Led Assessment of the Care Environment (PLACE) process and subsequent audits.
  • To assist in identifying an ongoing programme of service /equipment review and development which enhances the services.
  • To work in collaboration with the Trust's Facilities Manager, around Waste Management to ensure the safe collection, transfer and disposal of hazardous, general and recyclable waste.
  • To ensure that all mandatory, statutory and occupational training is provided and attended and recorded for all Portering staff and that agreed training targets are met.
  • To undertake staff Performance and Development Review to ensure performance targets and personal development plans are in place for all accountable staff within agreed timeframes.
  • To undertake regular site walk rounds (both acute sites) visiting areas where staff work, generate remedial work plans and ensure they are actioned.
  • Manage and maintain necessary equipment, resources, and supplies.
