We are recruiting for two roles within North Somerset CAMHS, offering exciting opportunities to help shape & develop the service.
Post 1: A 10 PA role, including 6 PAs dedicated to psychiatric input & service development for the North Somerset CAMHS Learning Disabilities team.
This includes overseeing care for children & young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities & associated mental health needs, in close collaboration with the community child health team.
The remaining 4 PAs provide psychiatric input & medical leadership to the Core Community CAMHS team.
Post 2: A 6 PA role within the Core Community CAMHS team, focused on assessments of the team's psychiatric referrals & psychiatric input alongside other team Consultants & onward allocation to therapeutic pathways such as CBT, DBT, trauma therapy/EMDR and family therapy.
We are implementing the i-THRIVE model across AWP CAMHS to transform services in partnership with young people, carers, and local agencies. This provides a unique opportunity for you to develop and share your special interest and/or service leadership and management.
You will join experienced consultants in North Somerset CAMHS & a wider network of supportive colleagues across AWP CAMHS in Bristol & South Gloucestershire including community teams, Learning Disability CAMHS, an Intensive Support & Hospital Assessment Team & specialist CAMHS services including Young People Substance misuse treatment team, Thinking Allowed and Be Safe teams.
Main duties of the job
Core Clinical Responsibilities
Provide assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment for children, adolescents, and families presenting with severe and complex mental health difficulties.
Hold psychiatric responsibility for patients directly seen by psychiatrists within the consultant's designated CAMHS team.
Clinical Activity
- Offer new assessment appointments and follow-up reviews as clinically indicated.
- Provide consultation to colleagues and engage in multi-agency liaison with education, social care, primary care, and other relevant services.
- Be available for unpredictable emergency work as required by the service.
- Determine the frequency of follow-up appointments on a case-by-case basis, including extended assessment and formulation, Medication reviews, Mental state monitoring, Joint reviews with the care coordinator where appropriate

- Opportunities are available for the post-holder to develop a specialist clinical interest, aligned with the needs of the locality team and service priorities.
Leadership and Team Contribution
- Provide senior clinical leadership within the multidisciplinary team.
- Work collaboratively with the clinical service manager, team manager, and other senior clinicians to support high-quality, evidence-based care.
- Contribute to the development of team culture, clinical pathways, and service improvement initiatives.

- Full GMC Registration or eligibility to be included on the register and holding a current licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of gaining CCT in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
- Section 12 approval/ Approved Clinician Status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable
- Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD, PHD, Msc or other additional clinical qualifications
- MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
