This permanent post is a rare opportunity for a clinician to work in the friendly, enthusiastic, innovative, supportive and experienced Banes Early Intervention team.
BANES Early Intervention Team is a small multi-professional team working across CAMHS and Adult Mental Health Services, providing care for people aged 14-64, presenting to mental health services, often for the first time. The post involves using psychosocial interventions and working with people experiencing a first episode psychosis/ bipolar. You will work closely with carers and families. The service is part of an AWPs Trust-wide 6 Early Intervention Services, with strong links to the Southwest and national networks.
We are forward thinking, delivering NICE-approved, evidence based interventions; including CBT for psychosis, family work, occupational and vocational advice/interventions, physical health monitoring and interventions, alongside pharmacological interventions . In addition, all team members are involved in the facilitation of social, activity, and carer's support/education groups and delivery of training across our catchment area.
We are seeking someone who is committed to team working, enthusiastic and passionate about early intervention in psychosis and in providing excellent care for service users You must be an brilliant communicator, have a flexible approach to your work with a good knowledge base of the principles of Early Intervention in Psychosis.
Main duties of the job
To use the specialist CAARMS assessment to identify people presenting with symptoms of possible psychosis.
To plan and implement specialist programmes of care for people following the first appearance of psychosis, including carrying a specialist caseload of clients and acting as a key worker.
To liaise and work in collaboration with other agencies in planning and assessing specialised care.
To co-facilitate social and therapeutic groups.
To co-deliver educational groups to service users, other teams and the wider public.
To provide specialist advice to service users, carers and professionals.
To develop awareness sessions around psychosis and early intervention to be delivered within education and youth services.
To provide clinical supervision to junior staff and students.
To undertake audit, research and development activities.
To maintain work to a standard that maintains the teams high performance (key performance indicators and NCAP)

To work within the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service delivering all components of the established Early Intervention model.To provide comprehensive and specialist assessment of people between the ages of 14 to 64 years referred to the Early Intervention Team with a first episode psychosis or possibly emerging psychosis. This will include the use of formal psychiatric and psychological rating scales, as well as liaison with carers and staff from other agencies that may be involved with the individual.
To provide advice and to assist other members of the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service with interventions which draw on your own specialist professional knowledge (for example, an occupational therapist specialist would be expected to advise on and carry out specialist occupational and vocational assessments).
To provide advice and support to carers/ relatives , and to provide structured family intervention to families where a person has a first episode psychosis.
To assist in the transfer of appropriate cases between the CAMHS and Adult Services, in keeping with need and service user wishes.
In line with Trust policy, to receive regular clinical supervision and to participate in clinical and caseload supervision arrangements provided by the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service.
To participate in the development and delivery of teaching and training where appropriate. In particular, to plan develop and deliver training around psychosis and the importance of early intervention to individuals, carers and staff within schools, colleges, universities and places of employment and other community groups.
To provide clinical supervision for students, support workers and junior staff.
To be aware of and comply with all policies, procedures and directives of the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service as well as the Trust.
To maintain and further develop high standards of professional practice through co-operative work with other mental health professionals and involvement in professional audit.
