Job summary

North Somerset CAMHS LD is investing in its team and this is a new role within the team.

You will be a RNLD qualified, and you will work as a specialist nurse in the Specialist Service for Children with Learning Disability (SSCLD) within North Somerset Community CAMHS to ensure a clinically effective and high-quality nursing service.

Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon are thriving seaside towns within easy commuting distance to Bristol and Taunton. The M5 motorway is within easy access. Weston-super-Mare is a growing multi-cultural area with numerous amenities and has access to the beautiful coastline and also the Mendip Hills. The area is ideal for those who like an active outside lifestyle but also who want to be within each reach of Bristol and Taunton. There are a number of outstanding Ofsted rated schools within the area.

North Somerset child and adolescent mental health team (CAMHS) currently offers a range of innovative and informed approaches, supports CPD opportunities witha comprehensive in-house training programme.

We offer flexible working patterns and have the benefit of working across 2 sites in Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon. The team also provides Eating Disorder and Core CAMHS Services and have the potential to offer development opportunities.

The successful candidate will be part of a stimulating and supportive multidisciplinary team, working as part of the skilled LD service alongside the team lead.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a role model for junior staff and be clinically competent to hold an active caseload. To provide support, advice, healthcare and health promotion as well as initial and on-going holistic health assessment to children and young people with learning disabilities and their families/carers. To be working as part of and promoting joint working with the wider multi-agency Specialist Learning Disability Service.

The post holder will help to improve early identification of challenging behaviour and mental health issues in children and young people with moderate to profound learning disabilities

The post holder will help with improving the quality of support to children and young people with moderate to profound learning disabilities who are based within specialist educational settings; and mainstream school children identified as requiring a service.

To work closely with the Senior SSCLD Nurse to review, audit and help implement strategic changes to SSCLD to achieve Core Values and Targets in line with government initiatives.
