Job summary

The BSW Urgent Care Service has a position available for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking mental health clinician to join our innovative and rapidly expanding service as the Team Manager.

You will be responsible for managing the team who provides and urgent care response across BaNES, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW). The BSW Urgent Care Service will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service incorporates: NHS 111 Mental Health, the BSW Response Line, and an AWP response after the core operating hours for BSW Intensive Services and Mental Health Liaison teams.

The team will be providing predominantly remote mental health triage and assessments to callers and service users which include telephone assessments, and at times where indicated, virtual / face-to-face assessments.

You would form part of the established multidisciplinary team working with registered and non-registered mental health professionals and will work alongside our Medvivo 111 colleagues to support individuals experiencing mental health difficulties. This is a 24/7 service and will involve occasional out of hours work to support the team.

Main duties of the job

The BSW Urgent Care Service workforce is made up of registered and non-registered colleagues from a range of backgrounds. The role will be based within the headquarters of Medvivo in Chippenham located along the M4 corridor.

You will lead a predominantly desk based service supporting the coordination and prioritising of incoming work to the BSW Urgent Care Service. You will be working collaboratively and supportively with Medvivo's multi-disciplinary health care team as well as core AWP mental health teams.

The role will also work closely with the on call AWP Senior Manager and Executive on Call.

To lead and inspire the delivery of high quality and effective Urgent Care mental health service for service users, carers and professionals coming into contact with the BSW Urgent Care Service.

To provide clinical leadership to ensure the appropriate care pathway is identified focussed on the management of risk and prevent hospital admission and ambulance attendance for service users with the most complex and acute needs where appropriate.

To co-ordinate, undertake and/or support the specialist assessment of physiological and/or psychological functioning for service users with complex and health and wellbeing needs, in an emergency for service users, who may be acutely unwell, distressed and in crisis.

To be responsible for, ensuring that calls made to the BSW Urgent Care Service enter an appropriate mental health care pathway using appropriate frameworks in line with evidencebased practice, including strategies to manage risk for service users with complex needs and their carers, bringing in other resources as required.

Provide leadership with the BSW Urgent Care and Access Service Manager, to ensure the service develops and maintains excellent clinical standards and effective caseload supervision; this will be underpinned by robust and effective processes.

To oversee and ensure, across the service, that there are effective risk management plans and strategies, for service users and carers, taking account of risks to service users, carers, the organisation, staff and the public.

To develop and maintain, good partnership working with other services throughout all urgent care episodes, including core partnership working with Medvivo 111 staff, AWP services and regular liaison with other statutory agencies including the Police Service, Ambulance Service and Social Service Emergency Duty Teams.

Develop and maintain communication with a wide range of people/services/ agencies about complex matters or in complex situations with the purpose of sharing developing or resolving difficult or complex issues for the benefit of service users/carer and the service.

To represent the organisation in a range of circumstances, settings, presenting, facilitating or explaining as appropriate and dealing with any questions or difficulties as they arise.

To personally build and lead others to build, hope inspiring relationships with service users, which acknowledge the personal journey of each person, and focus on strengths and aspirations to allow the creation of meaningful personal recovery plans.

To support the Service Manager in developing systems and processes for the effective management and monitoring of the team caseload, on a day to day basis, ensuring that time is prioritised effectively, and service users and carer receive the appropriate level of service.

To lead and promote a whole team approach within the service and across agencies to ensure a shared ownership of urgent care responses.

To be responsible for the protection of individuals from abuse and harm in line with local safeguarding policies and procedures, by developing and reviewing with others protection plans and management strategies, ensuring the appropriate sharing of information.

Personally and leading others to collaboratively and sensitively work with individuals with a range of mental health needs to develop skills to manage their own health in accordance with their personal recovery plan, by actively promoting and using approaches which are affirming, build on strengths, identify past positive experiences and success, and use small steps to move towards the persons goal.

To provide a leadership role across the out of hours service, in the absence of the Team manager.

To work with the Service Manager to ensure the continuing improvements to the service in line with organisational goals.

To maintain health and social care record, ensuring both paper and electronic records are kept up to date in accordance with professional and organisational standards.

Report and record within agreed timeframes, all activity relating to information reporting and performance requirements.

To participate in, and deliver as required, management, caseload and clinical supervision in accordance with trust policy.

Demonstrate responsibility for developing own practice in line with professional qualifications and for the development of others, both practitioners, and those in training by making use of and providing, effective feedback, specialist therapeutic clinical supervision, coaching and appraisal.
