Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and skilled Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) Practitioner to join the Psychological Therapies Service (PTS) in South Glos for a one-year, fixed-term contract or secondment. Previous training and experience in MBT is desirable but not essential. We would welcome applications from those with experience of delivering psychological interventions with an interest in, and aptitude for, training in this model.
The post holder will provide complex psychological assessment and treatment for people referred to South Glos PTS with a particular emphasis on working with people with complex emotional needs (CEN) associated with a diagnosis of 'personality disorder', such as attachment and interpersonal difficulties and emotional intensity. The successful applicant will be part of the MBT workstream within PTS and play a central role in the delivery of group and individual psychological interventions whilst sharing a passion for offering high quality, safe and effective MBT.
Main duties of the job
The main focus of the clinical work for this post will be delivering the Mentalization Based Treatment programme within PTS at Kingswood Civic Centre. Day to day work involves psychological assessments, setting up and delivering therapy groups and individual therapy, working closely with Recovery colleagues, offering consultation and supervision and taking part in MBT team supervision.
To work closely with referrers, services and colleagues to collaborate around the delivery of MBT interventions.
To provide specialist training and supervision for mental health practitioners working with people with CEN.
Contribute towards the care programme approach (CPA), including taking on care coordination responsibilities as needed.

- To provide a high quality and systematic Psychological Therapies Service.
- To undertake specialist assessments, including risk assessment and assessment for suitability for specialist psychological therapies with service users and their carers (as appropriate to the role).
- To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the service users problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
- To be responsible for providing psychological interventions for individuals, carers and groups, within and across teams.
- To provide at least one specialist evidence based psychological intervention as dictated by the needs of the service
- To provide specialist consultation to members of the various teams in the area and beyond regarding formulation and psychological management of service users of those teams.
- To use specialist knowledge and skills to contribute to the more effective management of service users by teams.
- To be involved in the development and delivery of training within the Trust
- To participate in clinical and caseload supervision arrangements provided by the Service
- To maintain accurate records and to monitor clinical workload using agreed systems.
South Glos Psychological Therapies Service, is a well-respected team within the locality and the wider trust. The service comprises of a multidisciplinary staff members including psychologists, Art Therapists, OTs, Social Workers, Nurses and Psychiatrists. The service places emphasis on the provision of evidence based therapies (CBT, DBT, MBT, Psychodynamic Therapies, Family Therapy, EMDR, Music and Art therapy) aimed at meeting the diverse needs of our service users, families and carers. As a service the South Glos PTS has a commitment to address issues of structural inequalities and oppression that often create barriers in the provision of equitable care for the service user groups in the Locality.
