The Hope Service, part of the Traumatic Stress Service currently offers a PTSD care pathway for Refugees and Asylum Seekers, including victims of trafficking. We also support people with an asylum seeking background living in Initial Accommodation (IA) hotels across the region. We are offering an opportunity to join us as a clinical psychology work placement.

The role will involve providing support and assistance to staff and members of the team and undertaking clinical tasks under the supervision of the qualified clinical psychologist. There will also be an opportunity to get involved with routine ongoing audit, research and service evaluation within the team.

Our service supports with people with a refugee/asylum seeking background and both experience and a passion for working in this field are essential. People with lived experience of seeking asylum are particularly invited to apply. In return we can offer the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and effective team.

The Hope Service works primarily from Gloucester House, Southmead Hospital but the role could involve some remote working and community based work across the area. The role is for one day per week, with some flexibility around days.

Main duties of the job

Assisting clinicians with some aspects of clinical work, e.g. preparation of materials, scoring and reporting psychometric assessments (but not interpretation or reporting of this).

Undertaking R&D activities, under supervision of the responsible psychologist or other professional e.g. carrying out or assisting with carrying out audits, service evaluation or research.

Other clinical support as appropriate e.g. reviewing and summarising case notes to aid therapists, clinical administration activities or carrying out background research or preparation for meetings or service development (e.g. reviewing NICE guidelines or preparing a literature review)

Some direct supervised clinical work.

Supporting in other work of the service e.g. event planning and administration.

Ensure that adequate records of all work are provided in accordance with Trust guidelines.

At the outset of the placement specific learning objectives will be agreed for the placement.

Establish good exchange of information (clinical and other) with members of the TSS and other disciplines/agencies involved.
