Job summary

The overall purpose of the role is to lead and manage integrated, inclusive, non-clinical training including the leadership, management and coaching development programme for staff within the Trust and across all of its sites. This will align with both existing and new provision, implementing a clear pathway for progressive development opportunities that meets workforce priorities.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Retention and HR, the post holder will ensure that the leadership and development agenda supports delivery of AWP's People Strategy which will include:

  • Designing, implementing and evaluating development solutions to meet the organisational leadership, management and team development needs.
  • Facilitating the development of managers and their teams by whole team facilitation and bespoke development activity according to need, and within organisational objectives.
  • Acting as a Consultant providing specialist knowledge to help build and sustain a healthy organisation.
  • Working collaboratively and co-operatively with others in AWP and across the ICS to help develop a workforce with the skills, knowledge and competence necessary to deliver safe effective patient care and to enhance the quality of service delivery.
  • Integral to our management coaching and mentoring work.

Job responsibilities

  • To build and sustain effective relationships with the business (in particular, with its middle and senior managers) as both a leadership business partner and internal consultant to support it to understand its workforce management and leadership development needs in respect to its wider business plans.
  • To work in close collaboration with the business, the wider ICS and other system partners to identify and deliver the most efficient, appropriate, timely and cost-effective means of meeting the workforce management and leadership development needs identified.
  • To deliver practical training as required on the basis of the analysis of learning need and the requirements of the business.
  • To design and manage robust and accurate monitoring and evaluation systems for learning and development events and activities using that material to make recommendations and changes for improvement as appropriate.
  • To identify and contract with external training providers, where necessary, on the basis of providing high-quality, value for money learning and development activity that meets the needs of managers and staff.
  • Advise on policies outside direct area of responsibility and recommend the training required for successful implementation e.g. recruitment and selection, equal opportunities.
  • Liaise with awarding bodies and their representatives to obtain accredited centre status to run their programmes and ensure the programmes are delivered locally in line with their requirements. e.g. Chartered Management Institute.
  • To support managers across the Trust in understanding their responsibilities in respect to management and leadership, in accordance with Trust requirements, and to support them in this regard.
  • To manage the engagement and compliance to AWP expectations of managers and leaders, evaluating and providing data to the PMO and Board on the progress of the project.
  • To be responsible for the training, supervision and delivery of the coaching offer across the organisation and to act as a business coach to senior managers where indicated.
  • Work with managers in service and corporate departments to design, develop, deliver and evaluate (in terms of impact on business) activities, such as facilitated staff events, that relate to identified business need.
  • Contribute to the overall organisational development activity, as required, including participation in Trust-wide strategic OD initiatives.
  • Lead on the development of a coaching culture across the Trust through supporting managers to develop knowledge and skills in this area.
  • To develop an annual management and leadership development programme and secure and manage resources as required.
  • Manage delegated elements of the budget, reporting to Associate Director of Retention and HR and liaising with the Finance Department.
  • Develop and submit bids for external funding and internal business cases for specific projects and initiatives and assume direct responsibility for the contracts and their respective budgets that derive from this activity.
