Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust

Band 5 Assistant Psychologist - Bristol Drug & Alcohol Services

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

The assistant psychologist posts offer an opportunity to work as part of a psychology team delivering group and individual psychosocial and psychological interventions to people who use illicit drugs and are in contact with the criminal justice system. In addition there will be opportunities to contribute to the development of the service as well as to support the evaluation of new interventions.

Working with people who use illicit drugs can be challenging and rewarding in equal measure. Stigma is a significant issue for this client group and a number of structural barriers exist which prevent people being able to access effective treatment for physical and mental health difficulties.

The posts are funded through the ADDER Accelerator initiative and are part of a wider expansion of drug treatment services in Bristol.

We are particularly seeking applicants who have experience of working with people who use substances and/or experience of working in the criminal justice system.

Working for AWP delivering drug treatment services provides the chance to work for an NHS Trust while also working in close partnership with dynamic and creative third sector colleagues. AWP staff take lead professional roles in the treatment system, championing the delivery of high quality, evidence based services as well as safety and quality.

Main duties of the job

The post-holders will have the opportunity to develop a high level of proficiency and autonomy in individual psychological assessments and interventions as well as group interventions via working jointly with the ADDER practitioner psychologists.

It is important to consider evaluation and research within the new ADDER programme and we see the assistant psychologist posts as being key in supporting this.

The posts are based at Campbell House in Bristol with occasional visits to other sites around the city. The post holders will be expected to travel within Bristol in this post.
