Job summary
The CAMHS DBT Service has been gradually building over the last 2-3 years and after successful shorter-term pilot phases we've managed to gain funding for a one year pilot with plans in place to apply for additional funding to make the post substantive in the future. The service has been designed and developed using the DBT-A manual as a foundation block to build from. We have been using evidence-based scoring measures i.e. DERS-18 and DBT-ESQ to ensure an effective service is being delivered.
The DBT Service runs over a period of 16 weeks. Included within this is a 4 week Pre-DBT intervention to assess commitment and motivation. After this, young people complete 12 weeks' worth of skills group where we run through 4 key modules: Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Mindfulness alongside their weekly 1:1 sessions.
There is a hope that as we expand we will be able developing our service to be inclusive of Radically-Open DBT ("RO-DBT") alongside supporting Locality CAMHS in the implementation of the Decider Group.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a key role within the DBT Hub - this would include: Pre-DBT Assessments; facilitating Skills Groups; weekly 1:1 sessions using mood diaries and completing chain analyses whilst also reviewing homework; partaking in weekly consultation including being part of the different roles - Team Lead, Observer, Admin; finally, we also hope in the future to create a DBT Support Line (9-5 Mon-Fri) so we would expect the post holder to be able to support with this.
As briefly mentioned above, the post holder would be expected to hold a clinical caseload where you would be able to utilise your skills and knowledge of DBT to provide skilled assessments and evidence-based intervention to young people as they go through the 16 weeks within the DBT Service.
As part of this developing service, there would also be an expectation that the post holder would be able to support in the expansion and improvement of the DBT service. This would include ensuring ROMS are being regularly collected by all in the service and review this data in the hope of making adjustments to ensure the service is meeting the needs of the YP and families utilising it. This will also include regular reviews of the referral process, inclusion/exclusion criteria. Additionally, within the service we utilise scripts to help newer members of staff within the service - the post holder would be expected to regular review and update these scripts to meet the needs of the young people and families.
About us
The DBT Service is a new team but at the same time, we've been building an exciting atmosphere over the last 2 years in a pilot phase and are already well known and established within CAMHS. The members of the service over the pilot are a wide range of backgrounds and we work hard to provide a space that is containing and safe whilst also balancing this with supporting development.
At AWP we actively encourage applicants from all backgrounds; we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and from the LGBTQ+ community. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge to AWP, as diversity makes us stronger.
Our outstanding people promote mental health and wellbeing. The expertise and resources within AWP are dedicated to a person-centred approach for those who use our services and for all employees. We recognise that happy and fulfilled employees give better care.
