Job summary

Are you passionate about delivering sustainable, high quality community mental health services?

The Trust is seeking a part time Consultant Psychiatrist to work in the Bristol Mental Health Assessment & Recovery Service, North team, based at the Greenway Centre, Bristol.

AWP's Assessment and Recovery Services provide a service for all adults over the age of 18, and in transition from CAMHS, excepting those who are only experiencing dementia. The service operates from 8am to 8pm, 365 days per year.

The service is split into 3 Assessment and Recovery teams, working from three sites at the Greenway Centre in Southmead (North), Petherton Resource Centre (South) and the Speedwell Centre (Central & East).

Each team is divided into 3 'GP clusters' according to GP populations. Each GP cluster has a dedicated consultant psychiatrist linking closely to GPs for advice and guidance and joint working. Each consultant works closely with around 5-6 GP practices. They use whole team approaches to work with people with intensive needs and complexity, providing additional contact, supervision and ad hoc advice and support.

We offer a leadership programme and a mentorship scheme for newly appointed consultants. You will be encouraged to develop an area of special clinical interest in line with service needs and become an educational supervisor.

Main duties of the job

As the post holder you will deliver direct interventions to service users at a level of intensity according to need including those service users who require an assertive approach who are difficult to engage. This will include on-going assessment, diagnoses (including review and clarification) and treatment of mental and physical health needs.

You will supervise the medical team that provides medical care and act as RC for service users in collaboration with other teams and Consultants.

You will be responsible for the mental health care of service users in line with new ways of working, monitoring and evaluating service delivery and care through regular reviews.

You will participate in MHA assessments where appropriate as well as facilitating CTO discussions.

Please see the JD for further details of the main duties of the post.
