Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust

Band 6 Physical Health Practice Development Nurse - Bath NHS House

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) provides inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bath and Northeast Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. We also provide specialist services extending throughout the southwest.

Main duties of the job

A holistic approach to managing mental and physical health is needed. Physical and mental health are inextricably linked, and it is detrimental to a person's overall wellbeing to regard these as two separate entities.

There is strong evidence that having a long term mental health condition can be a significant risk factor for the development of physical ill health. Conversely long term physical health conditions can lead to people suffering poor mental health.

Mental health nurses have unparalleled opportunities to help people improve their physical health alongside their mental health, both in inpatient settings and in the community. This role will support our Mental Health Nurses to building on their physical health skills and knowledge in practice. The post holder will assist our dedicated mental health nurses to identify the key risk factors that are known to adversely affect the physical health of people with mental health problems and support them to plan and provide the care required.

About us

We are AWP (Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust) a diverse organisation with over 5,000 dedicated staff providing inpatient and community-based mental health care.

We provide services from a range of locations to approximately 1.8 million people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, across the county of Wiltshire and in parts of Dorset.

Our outstanding people promote mental health and wellbeing. The expertise and resources within AWP are dedicated to a person-centred approach for those who use our services and for all employees. We recognise that happy and fulfilled employees give better care.

At AWP we actively encourage applicants from all backgrounds; we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and from the LGBTQ+ community. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge to AWP, as diversity makes us stronger.
