Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and innovative Interpersonal Therapist to join AWP Talking Therapies Service (IAPT)to ensure that the needs of IPT therapists are represented and addressed. In turn, this will enable us to provide the best service possible, placing service users at the heart of everything we do.

The successful post holder will need work autonomously with a caseload and with administration/planning. Duties will include planning/organising continuous professional development, liaising with universities/ training providers regarding training, chairing IPT meetings, facilitating and IPT supervision and offering an expert opinion in case discussions.

The post holder will take a key role in working alongside the Service Manager in ensuring referrals to Psychological Therapies are seen in a timely manner. This post will contribute to the developing IAPT programme in BSW through clinical leadership work and projects across the service.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist consultation and supervision within the specialised field of Interpersonal Psychotherapy.

Provide clinical leadership to other IPT therapists in the service, working in conjunction with the management team to ensure counselling and other evidence based talking therapies play an integral role in the work of the IAPT Service and in achievement of the Service's KPIs, ie. Recovery, Access and reduced Waiting Times.

To maintain a strong clinical role in primary care.

To participate in ongoing audit/evaluation of the appropriate services and contribute to clinical outcome data as and when appropriate.

To participate in role development/service issues and participate and attend meetings as and when required.

Job responsibilities

Supervise talking therapy staff in the service using an appropriate Recovery-focussed supervision model agreed with the Team Leaders and Service Lead and which is aimed at achieving high recovery rates.

Delivery of CPD events locally and service wide relating to relevant IAPT clinical themes and interventions.

Provide clinical leadership to other IPT therapists in the service, working in conjunction with the management team to ensure counselling and other evidence based talking therapies play an integral role in the work of the IAPT Service and in achievement of the Services KPIs, ie. Recovery, Access and reduced Waiting Times.

Formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for clients who will present with many and varied mental health difficulties and levels of complexity, and incorporate risk assessment and management plans, including active management of relevant safeguarding issues.

Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service and national IAPT guidelines

To be part of the senior management team, offering a triage function to service issues (complaints and clinical issues) as they arise with the support of the senior members of staff

Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to Talking Therapies referral protocols in conjunction with colleagues internally

Carry an individual caseload and adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, the number positively attended and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient

Assess and manage clinical risk. To support other colleagues in undertaking this work.

Work consistently and coherently towards Recovery as defined by IAPT

Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate

Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols and National IAPT guidelines

Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach; and in particular the Stepped Care model allied with IAPT Services

Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process

Carry out clinical audits of service performance, including service user surveys and evaluations, and help to collate and disseminate the results for feedback

Undertake a designated number of assessments/triages per week and allocate patients according to the IAPT/Service stepped care model

Contribute to the design and delivery of training to talking therapies staff, as guided by the Team Leaders and Service Lead

Attend clinical and line management supervision on a regular basis as agreed with the Team Leader

Ensure line managed staff maintain outcome data as per service operational policy.

Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies (e.g. BACP, UKCP), and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the department of health (e.g., NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence).
