Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant to join the Bristol Early Intervention Service.

This is a new post within an existing service, to work along side the established full time Consultant. This post has been created due to current and projected case load increases.

The Bristol Early Intervention Service is based at 1 Campbell House in the centre of the Bristol, adjacent to the large city centre general hospitals.

It provides a range of bio-psychosocial interventions to people between the ages of 14 - 35 across the whole city who have experienced a first episode of psychosis. The current caseload is approximately 250.

The EI Team work flexibility to best meet the needs of service users and their families within the Early Intervention Team framework and maximise the chances of engaging young people. Appointments maybe at the Team base, at other team bases in the city, in service user's homes, in GP premises or other community facilities.

The team have lots of opportunity to come together to reflect on the care and treatment we offer. We have Team Formulation, CBT/Psychology Skills, Think Family, Team Business meetings, and daily morning meetings where the team can have the support of the MDT with risk and complexities. The team are very passionate, cohesive, and supportive, and there is a warm and welcoming culture.

Main duties of the job

As the post holder you will work alongside the current Consultant Psychiatrist in providing clinical input into the EI Team.

In line with new Ways of Working, you will provide a mixture of consultancy, supervision, case review and clinical input across the case load of approximately 250 service users. This will include involvement with families and carers, care programme meetings and liaising with service users during inpatient treatment, as well as contributing to MDT clinical meetings.

You will be involved in offering supervision for new patient assessments and to assess individual clients who require medical expertise.

You will act as Responsible Clinician for those patients on the caseload subject to Supervised Community treatment.

You will be encouraged and supported in developing the appropriate management and leadership skills to fully participate in service developments.

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • Relevant Higher Degree e.g MD,PHD,Msc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Eligibility

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months of gaining CCT
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
