Job summary

The Wiltshire IAPT service offers talking therapies to residents of Wiltshire who may be experiencing common mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.

This role offers a fantastic opportunity for anyone keen to take up a career as a psychological wellbeing practitioner. You will spend the year in our service supporting the clinical team whilst learning and developing and will then be in a strong position to successfully apply for a PWP training post. Our service has training opportunities for PWPs each year. Ideally, you will be educated to degree level with some previous experience working in mental health and have strong IT skills.

You will receive clinical and management supervision and will participate in regular training events to promote your development.

We are currently operating a hybrid working arrangement, where you will be based at either Green Lane Hospital, Devizes or Fountain Way Hospital, Salisbury with opportunities for some remote working from home.

At AWP we actively encourage applicants from all backgrounds; we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and from the LGBTQ+ community. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge to AWP, as diversity makes us stronger.

Main duties of the job

To plan, organise and teach psycho-educational groups under the supervision of an IAPT qualified practitioner covering a wide range of psychological knowledge and skills which may occasionally be in the evening or on a Saturday.

To deliver teaching and training in collaboration with qualified IAPT practitioners.

To undertake research and development activities under the guidance of a Clinical Psychologist or other suitably qualified IAPT practitioner.

To undertake continuing professional development and personal clinical supervision.

Under direction and guidance of senior staff to develop initiatives around self help and community engagement, including supporting the role of volunteer or helper.

As an Assistant PWP, you will be managing your own workload alongside our qualified and trainee therapists to support the delivery of groups and workshops as well as getting involved in projects, service promotion and research.

About us

We are a friendly and supportive team with a strong focus on staff wellbeing. We often run fun team activities such as a recent walking challenge and pumpkin carving competition and we are currently engaged in a vegetable growing contest. We also offer the opportunity for staff to get involved in specialist areas of interest as a "champion". Current topics covered include support for younger people, equality, diversity & inclusion, service user involvement, wellbeing, and several others.

We are AWP (Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust): a diverse organisation with over 5,000 dedicated staff providing inpatient and community-based mental health care.

We provide services from a range of locations to approximately 1.8 million people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, across the county of Wiltshire and in parts of Dorset.

Our outstanding people promote mental health and wellbeing. The expertise and resources within AWP are dedicated to a person-centred approach for those who use our services and for all employees. We recognise that happy and fulfilled employees give better care.
