Are you passionate about improving patient safety and care through learning from incidents? Are you someone who would like to develop skills in quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance? If yes, then the North East Ambulance Service has an exciting opportunity.

We are looking for a forward thinking Patient Safety and Learning Lead to work within our Quality Improvement and Learning Team. You will work alongside the patient safety investigation manager and complaints manager to drive forward the patient safety and experience agenda and support with the integration of learning from the safeguarding, coroners and claims services and learning from deaths team.

This role supports the development of a Patient Safety Culture and learning and requires sufficient seniority to engage directly with the Executive Team or the equivalent level of leadership in organisations without executives and with all other colleagues within the organisation.

Main duties of the job

The role will support the completion of Learning from Patient Safety Events (LFPSE) Records and completion of Incident Report Learning Tools (IRLTs). All trends will be monitored and reported across patient safety incidents and concerns (patient safety-related complaints and claims); appropriate reporting; advising senior colleagues, escalating as required, as well as contributing to improvement initiatives. Facilitate the Quality Assurance Group to ensure triangulation of patient safety issues across directorates (patient experience/patient safety/safeguarding/claims/coroners/emergency operations/clinical operations)

Develop, co-ordinate and deliver the training and education programme for induction/developing managers and IOs and promotion of an environment in which learning will flourish.

To provide support as appropriate to the Patient Safety Manager, deputising where required within the scope of practice.

About us

We employ 3,500 staff in 63 locations and serve a population of 2,600,000 in Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham, and Tees over 3230 square miles.

Many people think the job of the ambulance service is to collect patients and take them to hospital, but we do much more!

Paramedic skills have developed hugely in recent years, meaning we carry out more treatment at the scene and en-route to hospital.

We have a dedicated clinical assessment service that allows us to provide patients with the most appropriate care from the beginning of the patient journey.

We have a specialised branch of the Trust called HART which deal with explosions or terrorist attacks.

Ultimately patients are the heart of everything that we do to support our mission of "safe, effective and responsive care for all".

We value and respect the diversity employees bring to our workplace. We recruit a workforce that reflects the community we serve, and welcome applications from people from all backgrounds. To ensure we deliver on our aims in relation to diversity and inclusion we assess ourselves against a range of frameworks. We are ENEI Gold employer, Disability Confident Leader, Dyslexia Smart Award employer, Dementia Friendly, and part of Mind Blue Light programme and the Race at Work Charter from the Princes Responsible Business Network and are achieving across all objectives in NHS Equality Delivery System.
