Job summary

We are looking for a Consultant Obstetrician and subspecialist in Fetal-Maternal Medicine to join our team of Consultants in Women's Health at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust, Bristol. Due to recent national appointments, we have created a need for another Consultant Obstetrician and sub-specialist in Fetal-Maternal Medicine to join our growing team and to support our core business.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team when we are developing and expanding services offering high quality care to our women in all parts of our service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will hold CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and sub-specialty training in Maternal and Fetal Medicine or be within 6 months of this. They may have additional experience in other specialist areas to meet the needs of the department.

Our fetal medicine team are based in our newly-refurbished dedicated Fetal Medicine Unit with a dedicated waiting area, scanning and counselling rooms and a highly competent core Fetal Medicine Midwifery and administration team. We provide a broad spectrum of fetal care, including all non-fetoscopic invasive procedures. We particularly provide care for babies at risk of extreme pre-term birth and we diagnose and lead, as part of the MDT, care for all women across the South West with placenta accreta spectrum disorder.

  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • Maintain Full registration with the GMC.
  • CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and have been entered on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of commencing the post.
  • Specialist registrars that do not hold a CCT must be due to be awarded one within 6 months of the interview date.
  • Sub-speciality training in Maternal & Fetal Medicine

Desirable

  • Higher academic qualification (e.g., MD or MS).

Training and experience

  • Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
  • Clinical training and experience in general Obstetrics equivalent to that required for UK CCT

Desirable

  • Experience in tertiary Fetal Medicine Centre and tertiary NICU centre
  • Experience of preterm birth prevention and preterm MDT care planning
